At the same time on carrer de Calàbria

Early on I got a good feeling about this whole experience. Maybe from the train ride to Barcelona where I saw real flamingos and thought “Their actually quite graceful and not at all.. corny” or maybe it was during the first meeting with my boss at the local corner cafe, where I noticed the radio playing Righeira classic 80’s summer anthem “Vamos a la Playa”, naturally taking it as a good sign.

I wont lie, I have worked … a lot. But I have learned… a lot, really a lot. I have designed things that have made me me think “Did I really do this? This is quite good…”. I feel very fortunate to have ended up at Vasava. The agency has a good learning environment and every day I pick up something new. And they are really skilled at what they do, perfectionist in the real sense of the word.

Barcelona is, according to me, one of the most most exciting cities in Europe at the moment. The city defiantly inspires you, whatever your creative field might be. This sounds of course like a cliché but its quite true.

The social, sunshine and night life side of Barcelona is prime excellence but it’s a known fact which any tourist guide book can tell you.

But I have the say, when it all comes down to it, its probably the people and experiences you remember when all this is sadly over. The morning breakfasts with my co-workers at the corner café , my landlady which occasionally insists of giving me salsa lessons, the hairdresser in Sitges which used to be Take-That’s former stylist and always has a story from the Hacienda heyday to tell, the beach party’s at Barceloneta that goes on until the morning, the crêpes place in Born where the part time staff are design students and they always serve you a free drink cause they like when you drop by and… so on and so on..

Sadly enough I will not join the rest of you people in mid June at Hyper Island. But I will say, and meaning this the utterly most, It has been a real privilege to spend a year with the most brilliant, fun and odd collection of individuals that is IAD08. So until the next time our paths cross… Take care and live well!

Yours.

Simon Högblom, June 2008.
